The MyLab hack is an update, not a new tool

Nothing new to install if you have it already. The Canvas Hack Extension picked up a Pearson MyLab reader, and your account and plan come along. Paying for Canvas already? MyLab is included at no extra cost.

It covers the work that fills most MyLab evenings: homework sets in MyLab Math, MyLab Statistics and MathXL. Pearson support is in beta, so email support@canvasquiz.com if a question gets no answer.

How it works on MyLab

  1. Add it to Chrome. Free to add, with free answers to try it.
  2. Open a MyLab homework question, press the extension icon and tap "Turn on for Pearson". Allow the Chrome prompt. You only do this once.
  3. Read the answer under the question, enter it in the MyLab answer box or pick the choice, and press Check Answer.

The limits, up front: it never types into MyLab, it is off on tests, quizzes, LockDown Browser and Respondus pages, and graphs, StatCrunch and Mastering are not supported yet.

What it reads on MyLab

Reads

  • Typed numbers and expressions
  • Fractions, exponents and roots
  • Multiple choice and drop-down blanks
  • Tables and numbers in the question

Not yet

  • Graphing and number-line questions
  • StatCrunch and pop-up data windows
  • Mastering Chemistry, Physics and Biology

Off on purpose

  • MyLab tests and quizzes
  • Pages that need LockDown Browser or Respondus Monitor

Why this beats a chatbot tab on MyLab

MyLab gives each student their own numbers, so a classmate's answer or an old answer file rarely fits your version. A chatbot can work your version, but only after you retype the roots, exponents and fractions by hand and carry the result back. The extension reads the question where it already is, with your numbers, and the answer waits right under it.

Every Check Answer is still yours

The extension never touches the MyLab answer box. It shows the answer; you enter it, look it over and press Check Answer. That matters on MyLab, where homework usually allows three tries per step (Pearson MyLab help): a tool that submits for you can burn them before you notice a wrong one. Answers come from AI and can be wrong, so a quick look first is worth it.

Where it stays off: instructors can lock MyLab tests and quizzes in the Pearson LockDown Browser, which blocks other windows and apps (Pearson: locked-down tests). The extension does not run on MyLab tests or quizzes or on LockDown Browser and Respondus pages, and it gets around nothing.

Pearson MyLab questions

Is this a separate MyLab hack extension?

No. It is the Canvas Hack Extension with a Pearson MyLab reader added. One install and one plan cover Canvas and MyLab.

How do I turn it on for MyLab?

Open a MyLab homework question, press the extension icon and tap "Turn on for Pearson". Chrome asks once; allow it, and the answer shows under each question from then on.

Does it fill in MyLab for me?

No. The answer shows on the page, under the question. You type it into the MyLab answer box, or pick the choice, and press Check Answer yourself.

Does it work on MyLab tests, quizzes or LockDown Browser?

No. It stays away from MyLab tests and quizzes and from any LockDown Browser or Respondus page, and it gets around nothing.

What about Mastering Chemistry and Mastering Physics?

Not yet. Mastering is a separate Pearson app, and this beta reads MyLab Math, MyLab Statistics and MathXL homework only.

Can I try it for free?

Yes. Adding it to Chrome is free and you get free answers to try it on a real MyLab question. Unlimited is $14.99 a month or $48.99 every 4 months.

Also new: the Canvas Hack Extension on ALEKS and on McGraw Hill Connect.
